According to the Sri Lanka Library Association (Incorporation) (Amendment) Act No. 7 of 2004, the Membership consist of corporate members and non corporate members. The Corporate members consist of Fellows and Associates who shall have voting rights ; The non corporate members (persons not eligible to be corporate members) shall have no voting right.
Associate Membership
Those who have completed the Diploma in LIS or an equivalent professional course or any higher academic course on LIS is eligible to apply for Non Corporate membershp. Non coperate members with work experience are eligible to apply for the Associateship of the Sri Lanka Library Association as a
full-fledged professional and would be eligible to become a Chartered Librarian.

Fellowship
Procedure of awarding Fellowship of the Sri Lanka Library Association
Senior Associate members of the Association who has made significant contribution to the Library and Information profession of Sri Lanka are eligible to apply for Fellowship of the Association.
Senior Associate member mean an Associate member of the Association who has continuous membership of the Association for more than 5 years after awarding the Associate ship.
Significant contribution is measured by the taking into account the members contribution to the LIS profession of Sri Lanka in the following 4 areas.
- professional publications (print or electronic). Professional publication is a refereed publication on LIS
- serving as a key officer of the Sri Lanka Library Association
- contributing to human resources development in LIS
- making innovations that have promoted LIS
