Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) was incorporated by Law No.20 of 1974 of the National State Assembly and amended by act. no. 7 of 2004.

The SLLA is a founding and executive member of the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA) of Sri Lanka. It holds membership of the Commonwealth Library Association (COMLA) and the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA).
   Vission
    To be the center of excellence in the field of Library, Documentation and Information Science through an educated and proactive membership and collaboration with other stakeholders in the field.
   Mission
    To act as the pivotal professional body for library, documentation and information services in the country, by providing library education programmes, setting professional standards, fostering cooperation between all individuals and organizations interested in the welfare of libraries, acting as the forum for the exchange of ideas among members of the association, safeguarding and promoting the rights, privileges and status of librarians and information scientists and playing a leadership role in chartering the course of future library needs in the country.
SLLA celebrates its 49th Anniversary

The Sri Lanka Library Association will hold its 7th National Conference, in Colombo, on 25th June, 2009.

SLLA requests donations for its new building
SLLA is planning to build its own Education and Training Center at Pannipitiya. After many years of hard work SLLA was able to get a land from the UDA. More than 80% of the Public and School librarians received their professional education through the SLLA education programm. SLLA had to face many difficulties in conducting these courses since there was no proper venue. SLLA expects to have its own training center to cater to the needs of the thusands of librarians all over the country. Site Plan
